New Year in Cuenca, and Guayaquil

We celebrated the New Year in Cuenca with our neighbors - they "burn the old year" to get rid of any bad luck and bring in new good luck, by burning a stuffed dummy at midnight. We also visited Guayaquil with Grandma, Pops, and Aunt Windi. Sean, Kian and I have also been enjoying some extra Susie time.

Sean's parents and sister made the big trip south to help Kian celebrate his first Christmas! We bought flowers to decorate our house, Kian got a lot of presents, and Susie and Nate celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary!

Cuencanos celebrate the holiday season with multiple parades of children, in which they dress up as many different things - indigenous people, Santa and elves, angels, breadmakers, gypsies, you name it. These pictures are from the Pasada on the 24th, which goes on all day long.
